Course Details

Course content is based around Oxford’s EAP series of books, and covers core and extended skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking for use in an academic setting.

The course follows three key phases, but learners are able to focus on specific areas and skills if they wish. For example, a learner might choose to focus only on academic speaking skills for use in seminars and presentations should that be a weakness.

1️⃣ PHASE 1: Core Skills
– Approaching academic texts
– Discursive essay writing
– Using LLMs (e.g. ChatGPT) responsibly in academia
– Presentations with visuals
– Seminar skills
– Lecture skills

2️⃣ PHASE 2: Extended Skills
– Using multiple source texts: selection, comparison, and evaluation
– Argumentative essay writing
– Seminars: preparative reading and group discussion skills
– Poster presentations and responding to critical questions
– Group presentations
– Critical response essay writing

3️⃣ PHASE 3: Advanced Additional Skills
– Expository and complex texts: evaluating data sources and identifying cause, effect, and association connections
– Literature reviews
– Research projects and dissertations
– Meeting with supervisors

➡️ This course includes out-of-class support: you will be provided with additional guidance and support throughout your learning journey outside of class time via instant messaging (LINE, Signal, etc.).

➡️ This course features a wide variety of oral and written assignments that will be given for each main unit of each phase. Supplementary homework tasks may also be assigned to target key areas of weakness. Homework assignments are checked and returned within 5 days of the date of submission.

➡️ Some elements of the course are tailored to align with the student’s academic field for a bespoke learning experience. For example, if your major is English Literature, then key assignments and some in-class exercises will be in this subject. The course provides you with EAP skills that you can use in your academic field.

Pricing

⭐️ GBP £204 for 6 hours (£34/hour)

Payments work on a ‘pay-as-you-go’ model, with class hours purchased in packs of 6 hours. Students purchase the hours they need, and then purchase more packs as needed when they have used their hours.
